Introduction

Hey everyone! This blog is going to be a journal of our trip to New Orleans, the things we encounter during our time there, and the work we do to help rebuild the community.

We had our final pre-planning meeting last night to decide when we want to leave Saturday morning. We'll be off at 9:00am - early for some but not for others. On the way, we'll most likely stop in St. Louis and Memphis, but we'll just wait and decide on the way. We'll be heading down in two university vans for the sixteen hour journey.

This trip is structured in a different way than usual because we follow a cooperative leadership model. There is no single leader or captain of our group, everyone is in charge of a different section. It's an interesting approach and we usually discuss things quite a bit.

As far as the work we'll be doing in New Orleans, most of us will be gutting houses, though on Tuesday and Thursday we're going to have three (of the ten of us) working at a mobile respite care unit handing out supplies. We start bright and early every morning, but it provides us the opportunity to spend the evenings around New Orleans to enjoy the city.

If you have any questions or things you'd like to see, post a comment and we'll get back to you. I think it's safe to say that everyone is looking forward to this trip, and we'll keep you updated!
